Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids (UDG), a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies), pursues its communications upgrading campaign. By the end of 2016, fiber optic communication lines (FOCLs) will be deployed along the following 35–110 kV power transmission lines: Mayna substation — Yazykovo substation, Vostochnaya substation — Cherdakly substation, Melekess Gorodskaya substation — Mullovka substation, Ozerki substation — Cherdakly substation. Totally, UDG will commission 118 km of FOCLs which are more weather and EMF resistant and have higher capacity than wire and on-air solutions.
FOCLs enable high-speed data transmission across long distances without any amplifiers. UDG gradually replace HF analog communication equipment with the digital solutions with high transmission quality, noise resistance and signal protection.
In 2016, FOCLs will be deployed at six substations: Mayna, Ignatovka, Timoshkino, Veshkayma, Chufarovo, and Barysh.
UDG's digital solutions for dispatch and technological communication will provide exhaustive and adequate information on conditions and operating modes of the main and auxiliary equipment and technological irregularities occurred in the power system. This will significantly shorten the period of troubleshooting and repair of the electric equipment across the region.
