Isoprene is a precursor for producing polyisoprene rubber SKI-3. To produce it, for many years there was used a two-stage synthesis method which entails high consumption of feedstock and utilities. A Synthetic Isoprene Rubber Plant (SKI) is mastering a new technological process to produce monomer by direct synthesis of isoprene. The efficiency of the process being introduced makes it possible to reduce steam consumption by 25%, which is especially important due to utilities price rise. Isoprene capacity increase due to the direct synthesis process calls for increase of the existing formaldehyde capacities. A Unit's capacity will be 70 000 tons of formaldehyde per annum. To implement that project, a Contract was signed for basic engineering, supply of equipment and reagents.
