The headquarters preparing to host the Fourth Caspian Sea Littoral States Summit has began its operations in Astrakhan at the Southern Interregional Distribution Grid Company, a ROSSETI subsidiary. Staff at the headquarters includes several directors from power grid companies as well as representatives from the Astrakhan Oblast Ministry of Industry, Transport and Natural Resources and the Lower Volga Branch of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Oversight.
The headquarters has been tasked with coordinating the preparations for, as well as stricter control over, the operations of the electricity sector during the international summit.
Specialists from the Astrakhan branch of the Southern Interregional Distribution Grid Company have presently inspected key energy facilities which include two of the city's large substations and the 110kV cable and overhead power lines connected to them, which provide power to the Astrakhan Kremlin and other facilities which will be used during the summit.
Reserve power generators have been prepared for any emergencies.
Energy workers will be put on high alert during the Summit with brigades of on-duty, emergency response and accident response personnel working around the clock. All scheduled switching will also be prohibited at the Southern Interregional Distribution Grid Company facilities providing energy to the summit.
The Fourth Caspian Sea Littoral States Summit will be held in September of 2014. Astrakhan will be first regional city to host the Summit of the Caspian Five.
