The ceremonies commemorating bringing on-line the Kaunas-Shakyai trunk gas pipeline looping and Shakyai gas measuring station construction completion were held yesterday in the town of Shakyai, the Republic of Lithuania.
Sergey Serdyukov, Deputy Head, Department of Gas Transportation, Underground Storage and Utilization, Gazprom, who led Gazprom’s delegation, and representatives of Lentransgaz, Beltransgaz, Gazoil and Lietuvos dujos were present at the ceremony.
Realization of this project will allow Gazprom to increase annual gas volume transportation via Minsk-Vilnius-Kaunas-Kaliningrad gas pipeline, and to improve the energy security of Kaliningradskaya oblast.

Expanding the Minsk-Vilnius-Kaunas-Kaliningrad gas pipeline throughput capacity is implemented within the framework of the Federal target program of Kaliningradskaya oblast development up to the year 2010.
The program includes the project of Expansion of the Kaunas-Shakyai trunk gas pipeline.
Kaunas-Shakyai gas pipeline’s looping length is 63 km, the diameter is 700 mm.
Lietuvos dujos is the construction contractor.
Gazprom holds a 37% share of Lietuvos dujos.
The Shakyai gas measuring station is equipped with four main lines of gas flow recording for commercial purposes, one control line and gas chemical and physical quality control devices.
On November 28, 2005, in accordance with the program, the first line of Krasnoznamenskaya gas compressor station located in the vicinity of the town of Krasnoznamenskii in Kaliningradskaya oblast was brought on-line. Lentransgaz was the principal contractor for construction and Lengazspetsstroi implemented the construction work.
In 2004, Gazprom supplied 636 million cubic meters of gas to Kalingradskaya oblast’s customers. About the same volume of supplies is planned for this year. According to the decision made by Gazprom’s Board of Directors, Gazprom, together with Beltransgaz and Lietuvos Dujos, will develop a plan aimed at increasing gas supplies to Kaliningradskaya oblast and construction of an underground storage facility.
