On joint meeting of Gazprom Science & Technology Council Bureau and Research Coordination Board of Russian Academy of Sciences

Gazprom’s Headquarters has hosted an extended joint meeting of the Gazprom Science & Technology Council Bureau and Coordination Board of Research for Gazprom within the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

The meeting was dedicated to the Aspects of Gas Transmission System Safety & Security.

Co-chaired by the Academician Nikolai Laverov, RAS Vice President, Co-Chairman of the Research Coordination Board and Tatiana Lobanova, Deputy Head of Gazprom’s Strategic Development Department, Head of Gazprom’s Innovation Development Division, the meeting was attended by the RAS Academicians Abel Aganbegyan, Nikolai Aleshin, Georgy Golitsyn, Anatoly Dmitriyevsky, Yury Leonov, Nikolai Lyakishev, Viktor Osipov, Nikolai Plate and Oleg Favorsky, RAS Corresponding Members Albert Lapidus and Nikolai Makhutov, top managers & specialists of Gazprom’s core business units, representatives of RAS, VNIIGAZ, Promgaz and other scientific and research organizations.

The meeting heard reports by RAS scientists and leading industry experts, and discussed the major principles of and approaches to resolving tasks in relation to higher safety & security of gas transmission system operation.

The meeting emphasized that industry companies performed a substantial scope of diagnostics and repairs as well as carried out research aimed at stepping up measures to prolong the pipeline service life, assess the defect severity and develop new ILI tools, legal & methodological documents.

In this regard, the meeting specifically underscored that implementing such unique projects as constructing the North European Gas Pipeline and a gas transmission network from the Yamal Peninsula, creating an integrated gas supply system in Eastern Siberia and the Far East and developing the Shtokman field required performing forward-looking research based on forefront achievements of the fundamental and industry science.

At the end of the meeting the parties adopted a decision to develop a comprehensive industry program to enhance safety & security of Gazprom’s gas transmission system.
