Gazprom hosts meeting of Coordinating Committee for Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas Production and Sea-Borne Transportation

Gazprom’s Headquarters hosted the 5th meeting of the Coordinating Committee for Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas Production and Sea-Borne Transportation. Presided by Alexander Ananenkov, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee, the meeting was attended by Alexander Ryazanov and Yuri Komarov, Deputy Chairmen of Gazprom’s Management Committee as well as heads and experts of the Company’s core business departments and subsidiaries.

The Committee addressed the optimization of the Shtokmanovskoye gas condensate field-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and supply management structure.

Simultaneously, the participants discussed various options of gas transmission from the field, potential LNG plant construction sites and further routes of gas deliveries to sales markets.

Special emphasis was laid on the security of LNG transportation and production in the Arctic offshore environment. In this connection, the meeting reviewed proposals by the RF Defence Ministry’s State Research Navigation and Hydrography Institute on interaction with the RF Navy when implementing Gazprom’s projects in the Barents Sea offshore.

Ultimately, the parties heard a report on projected measures to be taken for the specialists’ training in the LNG production and supply areas.

Reference:

The 1st meeting of the Coordinating Committee for Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas Production and Sea-Borne Transportation took place on 2 October 2003. The Committee is mainly focused on the development of a corporate strategy in this direction as well as identification of subsidiaries’ optimum businesses.

On 19 October 2002, Gazprom and the RF Navy signed the Protocol of Intentions on interaction and long-term cooperation in the Russian Federation oil and gas offshore exploration and development.

The Protocol stipulates fulfillment of a variety of measures aimed to create a system of liquefied natural gas marine transportation with the use of the RF Navy’s specially equipped ships and port infrastructure as well as to establish a system ensuring Gazprom’s offshore development security.

The Shtokmanovskoye gas condensate field is located in the central Barents Sea and its reserves are valued at 3.2 tcm of gas and 31 mln t of condensate. The field is being prepared for the development, with subsequent liquefied natural gas marketing in the USA and other countries taken into consideration, as well.

The field will have 3 ice-resisitant floating hydrocarbon production platforms.
