Moscow, 3 March 2004. The power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" Holding generated 59 TWh of electricity in February 2004, which represents an increase of 1.4% compared to February 2003.
The thermal power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 50.3 TWh of electricity, which is practically the same as in February 2003, whereas the hydroelectric power plants produced 8.7 TWh, up 13% in year-on-year terms. Such an increase in the electricity production was due to higher stream flow of the rivers in the European part of Russia, and the commissioning of the second 185 MW hydropower unit at Bureyskaya HPP in November 2003.
According to the most recent reports, the electricity consumption in Russia in February this year was 82.8 TWh, which exceeded the forecast amount by 900 million kWh, - a 3% increase in year-on-year terms.
As the average air temperature in February 2004 throughout Russia was 2,2°C higher than the long-term annual average, the heat production by RAO UES enterprises totalled 62 million Gcal (according to the most recent report), a year-on-year decrease of 1.2 million Gcal.
