On 2nd March 2005 the 5000th subscriber was connected to the cable TV network of the Vologdaelectrosvyaz branch of OJSC North-West Telecom. The jubilee subscriber was given a certificate for the right of free use of cable TV services during a year.

Thus, today the subscriber base of the cable TV service of North-West Telecom in Vologda makes 5000 people. The subscribers may view 37 TV channels with a high image quality.  

The cable TV service has been provided in Vologda starting from the year 2000. In 2002 NWT launched the service of Internet access via the backward channel of the cable TV network.  Thanks to the new signal transmission technology via one free TV channel, high-speed information flows may be obtained. Internet via the cable TV network includes not only a direct digital connection with the Internet, it also includes on-line game and information servers and the possibility of organizing virtual private networks.

In 2005 North-West Telecom is planning to develop the cable TV service in Vologda and the service of Internet access via the backward channel of the cable TV network and is investing RUR 4 million in the project.  

The Electrosvyaz of Vologda Oblast branch of OJSC North-West Telecom is the leading telecommunication operator in the region.   The license territory of the branch embraces the entire region which has the area of 145.700 sq. km and a population of 1,270,000 people.  The Vologda branch includes 8 communication centers servicing 488 telephone exchanges with the total capacity of about 350,000 lines.  The network digitalization level is 64%.
