Moscow, 3 March 2005. According to the recent reports, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased electricity generation in February 2005 by 2.2% to 59 billion kWh from 60.3 billion kWh in the same period last year.*
The increased generation of electricity by RAO UES power plants made it possible to meet the growing consumption in the country (83.9 billion kWh in February 2005, up 1.1% from 83.0 billion kWh in February 2004). The higher energy consumption figures this February were due to the lower average daily temperature, which was 4.3?C lower than in February last year.
The February rise in generation was largely due to the increased output by the hydro power plants of RAO "UES of Russia", which amounted to 9.1 billion kWh, a nearly 5% increase from 8.7 billion kWh in February 2004. As before, the more intensive utilization of the RAO UES hydro power plants is attributable to the effective use of the above-normal hydro conditions in the reservoirs of some HPPs. The Company's thermal power plants generated 51.2 billion kWh of electricity in February 2005, which is an increase of 2% from 50.3 billion kWh in February 2004.
