OJSC North-West Telecom registered in the world object identifiers tree

OJSC North-West Telecom has become Russia’s first fixed communication operator complying with international standards in setting up its information safety systems and registered in the world object identifiers tree.

North-West Telecom has been registered in the world object identifiers tree under the public key infrastructure implementation project. The company has obtained object identifiers in two branches, representing Russia in the world information space, i.e. those of communication operators and certifying centers.

The Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is a basic component of the integrated information protection system being implemented in North-West Telecom. It is an integrated set of administration services and tools based on digital certificates. The essential PKI elements are a certifying center and a portal for access to public components. The work of PKI implementation in OJSC North-West Telecom is contracted to CJSC ANK, which is the bridge certifying center for the association of Russian certifying centers currently being set up.

An Object Identifier (OID) is used for unique identification of an object in catalogs built in compliance with International Recommendations X.501, which regulate catalog building in public systems interaction. The international catalog of object identifiers is managed by the non-profit international organization Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, and the national branch of object identifiers (1.2.643) is managed by OJSC Central Telegraph.

Currently, North-West Telecom is running a program of implementation of the electronic digital signature and paper-free document circulation. Registration in the world object identifiers tree ensures safe interaction with the company’s partners and customers, enabling to uniquely identify who an electronic digital signature is owned by, and by which certifying center the digital certificate was issued.

N. W. Telecom’s registration in the identifiers tree indicates that the company actively uses advanced technologies to protect confidential information and ensure business safety.
