Vladimir Akulich, North-West Telecom JSC Chief executive officer, has been elected an Academician of the International Academy of Communication

Vladimir Akulich, Chief executive officer of OJSC North-West Telecom, was elected an Academician of the International Academy of Communication at the meeting of the Presidium of the International Academy of Communication that took place on the 3rd of April 2005. This has been a recognition of accomplishments by V.A. Akulich as a specialist well-known in the industry and a leader in the field of managing big communication projects.  

The International Academy of Communication was founded as a public organization in March 1996. This is a fundamentally new organization in the international community, the goal of which is the integration of the world’s scientific potential of professionals in the field of communications development.   

The efforts of the Academy are aimed at solving economic, social and technological issues for a successful transition of the world community to the Global Information Society.  

The importance of the tasks tackled by the International Academy of Communication was recognized by the fact that in 2001 the Academy was given the Special Consultative Status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the associated status at the UN Department of Public Information and the fact that the Academy was admitted to ETSI ( Institut europ?en des normes de telecommunication – European Institute for Standardization of Telecommunications) and received associate membership in the International Union of Telecommunications.  

Today over 620 representatives from 45 countries of the world are members of the Academy.  They include managers of the communication industry and enterprises, research and educational institutions, and eminent scientists in the field of telecommunications.
