The Republic of Komi and OJSC North-West Telecom have signed a supplement to the Agreement of Mutual Cooperation

On the 21st of March a meeting between the Head of the Republic of Komi Vladimir Torlopov and the General Manager of OJSC North-West Telecom Vladimir Akulich was held in Syktyvkar.   In the course of the meeting a Supplement  to the active Agreement of Cooperation between the Republic and OJSC NWT was signed.

The Agreement of Cooperation was signed in October 2004.  The subject-matter of the Agreement is establishing efficient cooperation between the Government of the region  and OJSC NWT in the field of telecommunications development in the region.

The Supplement  to the Agreement sets forth plans for the development of communication in the Republic of Komi for the year 2005.   The plans of OJSC North-West Telecom include the commissioning of at least 30,000 telephone lines, the construction of a fibre-optic network Syktyvkar – Vizinga and the construction of a Republican multiservice communication network with access communication nodes in Syktyvkar and Ukhta.  The document emphasizes the issues of social partnership and preservation of social guarantees for employees of OJSC North-West Telecom.

The Head of Komi noted that he was satisfied by the joint work with OJSC North-West Telecom. ‘The Company has entered our region in a very good manner, and all plans declared in the Agreement are being implemented,’ Vladimir Torlopov said.   ‘The Agreement with North-West Telecom is first of all important for the residents of the Republic from the point of view of solving the issues of telephone communication provision.’

The General Manager of OJSC North-West Telecom said that the main objective of the company’s operation in the region is to ensure a civilized level of communication for each resident of the Republic. ‘We have an extensive programme for solving communication quality problems in the Republic.  Today we are spending a lot of funds in order to create a basis to move forward,’ V.Akulich noted. He said that the construction of the fibre-optic communication line that will connect the Vologda and Arkhangelsk Oblasts and the Republic of Komi will be the main stage in implementing this programme.  The fibre-optic communication line will be built by the year 2006.

Signing the Supplement to the Agreement of Cooperation is not the only purpose of OJSC NWT’s General Manager’s visit to the Republic of Komi.   Throughout the week, from the 21st till the 25th of March, V.Akulich will be getting familiarized with the operation of the communication nodes of the branch Svyaz of Komi and will have meetings with the teams of employees and veterans of the communication industry.  A number of working meetings with heads of municipal units is planned in the course of the visit. On the 25th of March the General Manager of OJSC North-West Telecom will take part in closing in Vorkuta the last step-by-step telephone exchange in the territory of the Republic of Komi.
