The 31-st Annual Conference of the Canadian Nuclear Society was held in Calgary, Alberta Province, Canada from May 31 till June 3, 2009. Specialists of JSC “OKBM Afrikantov” participated in the conference with the presentation “Sources of Electric and Thermal Energy on the Basis of Ship Nuclear-propulsion Technologies”. The paper was presented at the workshop “The Focus on the West” held in frames of the conference. The paper describes stationary and transportable (floating) options of reactor installations ABV and KLT designed by JSC “OKBM Afrikantov”. Many participants of the workshop expressed interest in the paper, including representatives of Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd, which operates and designs nuclear power plants in Canada.
The workshop also discussed designs of small capacity reactor installations being developed in the world. The conference participants included companies from the USA, Japan, France and other countries.
Note:
The use of various energy sources to support oil mining at oil sands, which are abundant in Alberta, is widely discussed in this Canadian Province. One of energy supply options is small capacity nuclear installations which market is ever broadening worldwide. The Canadian Nuclear Society is actively promoting the use of atomic energy in oil mining industry in Alberta Province, and the Annual Conference became one of results of this effort.
