MMK increases production and shipments of automotive sheet

OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works ("MMK" or “the Company”) has increased shipments of metal products to automotive producers in 2014 by 18% y-o-y to 415 ths tonnes from 353 ths tonnes in 2013.

Key factors of growth in production and shipments included the launch of high-quality automotive steel grades at new cold-rolled products Mill 2000 and hot-rolled products Mill 5000, as well as continuing trends of import substitution on the domestic automotive market.

Since the launch of Mill 2000 in 2011, MMK has mastered and launched production of more than 30 new steel grades for the automotive industry. Currently, the Company is well positioned to compete not only with Russian metal suppliers for automotive companies, but also major international players. MMK’s steel products are in demand by such local companies as AvtoVAZ, GAZ, UAS, KAMAZ, as well as international corporations with their own production facilities in Russia, such as Ford, Volkswagen, Renault and Nissan. The Company's launch of new automotive sheet grades in 2014 was acknowledged by the Russian Government with an award in the field of science and technologies.

Deputy General Director for Sales at MMK Nikolai Lyadov said:

“The automotive market is one of the most promising and attractive sectors for MMK. New cold-rolled products Mill 2000 can produce nearly any grade of automotive sheet required by both domestic and international companies. We expect that the weakening of the rouble will support our efforts to substitute imported automotive sheet in 2015. MMK is prepared to offer carmakers in Russia the best value for money compared to imported analogues.”
