The Head of the Republic of Komi has visited OJSC North-West Telecom

On 16th June 2005 Vladimir Torlopov, the Head of the Republic of Komi, paid a working visit to OJSC North-West Telecom. During the meeting, the progress of the implementation of the measures provided for by the Agreement of Mutual Cooperation between OJSC North-West Telecom and the Government of the Republic of Komi was discussed.   

The parties have noted that all obligations stipulated by the Agreement are being fulfilled by both parties in full and in due time.   The company invested over 200 million roubles in the development of the communication industry in the territory of the Republic of Komi for the five months of the current year. 89 million roubles of tax deduction s have been paid to the republican budget for the 4 months of 2005, which is much more than in the previous year.   All social guarantees for the employees of the branch Svyaz of Komi of OJSC North-West Telecom have been retained.

At a meeting with the top-management of North-West Telecom, the Head of the Republic of Komi noted that today the NWT united company "is perceived in the republic badly needing up-to-date communication services not just as an abbreviation, but as a powerful company that has managed to show its willingness for a mutually beneficial cooperation and the ability to solve any arising problems quickly and efficiently for the short time it has been operating in the Komi market."     

Vladimir Torlopov told the management of the company about the investment plans of the region's development and the prospects for the development of telecommunications in the Republic , especially in the light of the developing industrial potential of such cities and towns as Inta, Vorkuta, Usinsk and Ukhta.        

In his turn, Vladimir Akulich, the Chief executive officer of North-West Telecom, assured his guest that the company had always considered the Republic of Komi as one of the most attractive regions of its operating area and was ready and willing to make its contribution to the development of up-to-date communication services there.    

The parties have decided to take into account the comments and wishes expressed in making up the Addendum to the Agreement for the year 2006 and to complete the work on the Addendum to the Agreement by October 2006 at the latest.   

The current Agreement of cooperation was signed in October 2004   in the framework of implementing the programme of meetings of the management of OJSC North-West Telecom with heads of administrations, in whose territories Company branches operate (see the respective Press Release). The subject-matter of the Agreement is establishing an efficient cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Komi and OJSC North-West Telecom in the field of telecommunications development in the region. In March 2005 the Addendum to the Agreement of Cooperation setting forth the plans for communications development in the Republic of Komi for 2005 was signed.
