Rosneft and Russian Machines, a company of Basic Element group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The MoU envisages joint projects to boost the use of compressed natural gas, or CNG, in vehicles and create CNG filling stations across the Russian Federation. The document was signed by Chairman of Rosneft Management Board Igor Sechin and Chairman of Russian Machines Board of Directors Siegfried Wolf.
The MoU also stipulates that the parties carry out shared technoeconomic research to create infrastructure and marketing framework for CNG as car fuel. Furthermore, it covers the arrangement of equipment design and testing, also shared by the parties, with regards to Rosneft NGV filling stations. By 2023, the company expects to commission up to 1,000 NGV filling stations.
These agreements will enable Rosneft and Russian Machines to synchronize their efforts in expanding use of natural gas as fuel in vehicles.
After signing the MoU Igor Sechin said: “Implementation of this agreement will make a significant contribution to development of this environment-oriented fuel market. Furthermore, it will encourage the creation of cutting-edge domestically-made equipment.”
Siegfried Wolf, BoD Chairman of Russian Machines, stated that “the promotion of natural gas-driven transportation market in Russia is one of the top priorities pursued under our corporate strategy. We’re a leading domestic manufacturer of CNG commercial vehicles, including LCVs, busses of different types and trucks. In 2015 we pioneered with our proprietary gas filling module that was commissioned in Nizhny Novgorod. I believe that expanding cooperation with Rosneft will further favor the introduction and localization of up-to-date gas filling technology.”

The agreement that has been signed is a logical step in line with the orders voiced by the President of Russia and the country’s Government, which required implementation of the complex of measures focused on enhancement of energy efficiency through expanding use of gas as motor fuel.
Rosneft signed a range of agreements for cooperation with the regions of the Russian Federation in the area of expanding use of gas as motor fuel. The agreements aimed at development of the gas motor fuel market were also signed with the leading Russian car manufacturers. |
