GAZPROM

April 13, 2005

1ST meeting of Central Asia – Centre gas pipeline dispatchers held

From 12 through 14 of April, Moscow is hosting the 1st meeting of gas dispatchers from the countries supplying and transiting natural gas originating in Central Asia.

Attending the meeting are representatives of Gazprom, Gazexport, Turkmengaz, Uztransgaz, Intergaz Central Asia (a Kaztransgaz subsidiary), Kavkaztransgaz, Yugtransgaz, Giprogaztsentr, Zarubezhneftegaz and Gazprom’s office in Turkmenistan.

Viktor Gerke, Head of the Dispatch and Technology Division with Gazprom’s Central Gas Flow Dispatching Department delivered a report at the meeting, saying that concerted actions of the Central Asian gas supplying and transiting companies’ dispatch units should contribute to ensuring uninterrupted gas transit by the Central Asia – Centre (CAC) gas pipeline.

“The CAC network of gas pipelines is currently the major transmission line exporting gas from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Within the over 30-year period of operation, CAC has considerably aged and needs substantial upgrading. At present, CAC is undergoing a big scope of repairs and inspection influencing the gas transmission amount. Under these conditions, gas dispatch operators are playing a particularly significant role in eliminating accidents and supply shortfalls,” – noted Viktor Gerke.

The meeting also heard reports on the technical condition of various CAC sections and potential expansion of cooperation in natural gas transit from Central Asia as well as scrutinized interaction between gas dispatchers.

At the same time, the parties pondered and agreed on a Draft agreement between gas dispatchers from the countries supplying and transiting Central Asian natural gas.

The parties placed special emphasis on the gas dispatch information sharing and moved to hold similar meetings on a yearly basis.

Reference:

Built between 1967 and 1985, the Central Asia – Centre (CAC) network of gas pipelines runs through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to the Alexandrov Gai compressor station (Kazakh-Russian border).

The roughly 45 bcm/y throughput of CAC is projected to be increased to some 90 bcm/y.

While performing a feasibility study for the CAC expansion and upgrading investment project, Russia has furnished the Turkmen side with preliminary Investment Substantiations to be further developed upon completion by Turkmenistan of the CAC technical condition diagnostics and domestic hydrocarbon reserve audit.

Gazprom is transiting Central Asian gas to Russia and abroad as well as serving as operator for Turkmen gas transits via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
