Moscow, 10 August 2005. The repair crews of the energy companies of RAO "UES of Russia" in the North-West of Russia are restoring power to customers after a hurricane that hit the area on the night of August 9-10. The hurricane damaged three 330 kV transmission lines and sixty 6-15 kV distribution lines in the Kaliningrad Region. In the Pskov Region, there was an emergency shutdown at 213 transmission lines of 6-10 kV; in the Leningrad Region, 150 transmission lines of 6-10 kV and 928 transformer substations, and in the Novgorod Region, 77 high-voltage lines of 6-10 kV.

By now, the teams of the power grid companies of OAO "Pskovenergo", OAO "Lenenergo", OAO "Novgorodenergo", and OAO "Yantarenergo" have repaired most of the equipment damaged by the adverse weather conditions.

Thanks to the prompt action of the energy companies' staff , RAO "UES of Russia" was able to avoid interruptions in power supply to all strategic facilities and social infrastructure in the Kaliningrad Region, and the large industrial enterprises and social infrastructure in the Leningrad Region. According to the recent updates, all social infrastructure facilities in the Pskov Region are supplied with power from backup or main power sources. Moreover, OAO Pskovenergo installed diesel generators at some important facilities in the area.

67 energy repair crews of OAO "Yantarenergo" are working to liquidate the consequences of the hurricane, over 60 repair crews are working in the Leningrad Region, 122 crews in the Pskov Region, and 50 crews in the Novgorod Region. All energy companies are working in close contact with the units of the Ministry of Emergencies, and the regional and local authorities.
