Rostelecom, Russia’s national long-distance telecommunications operator, and the Federal Penitentiary Service (FPS) of the Russian Federation have signed an agreement on creation of multi-service network and provision of telecom services for FPS entities.
The joint project, aimed at improvement of conditions of life of the persons under detention or imprisonment, is part and parcel of the policy of human rights protection in all penitentiaries of the Russian Federation. Under the project, the inmates will be provided by up-to-date telecom services including “Tele-medicine” and “Distance learning”. The services are to be provided on a commercial basis, with the construction of new digital lines and modernization of existing.
Development of the multi-service network is one of Rostelecom’s activities having considerable prospects. Thanks to unique technological and infrastructure capabilities of the Company, such network enables it to offer the subscribers in every Russian region a wide range of data and voice transmission services as well as a videoconferencing service.
The General Director of Rostelecom Dmitry Yerokhin commented: “It’s a long time Rostelecom has successfully cooperated with the Federal Penitentiary Service.
