RAO UES Management Board member Vyacheslav Voronin to chair meeting of Central Acceptance Committee at Kaliningradskaya CHPP-2

Moscow, 8 September 2005. Tomorrow, Vyacheslav Voronin, Member of the Management Board and Managing Director of Services Business Unit of RAO "UES of Russia", will chair a meeting of the Central Acceptance Committee in Kaliningrad on putting the Kaliningradskaya CHPP-2 into trial operation.

The meeting will consider the schedule for the working acceptance groups to commission the start-up complex at the Kaliningradskaya CHPP-2 and set deadlines for completion of finishing works, and the date for all-round testing of the power unit.

The first power unit of 450 MW at the Kaliningradskaya CHPP-2 is scheduled to start trial operation on 28 October 2005. When completed, the plant will have an installed capacity of 900 MW (2 power units of 450 MW each). The Kaliningradskaya CHPP-2 employs a state-of-the-art combined-cycle technology with the efficiency of 51%, whereas conventional steam power plants have efficiency of not more than 40% The technology helps reduce gas consumption by 20-30%.

The plant construction is financed mostly with earmarked funds of RAO "UES of Russia" and loans from Sberbank of Russia. In 2005, RUB5.26 billion in funds will be allocated for the plant construction, including RUB3 billion in earmarked funds provided by RAO "UES of Russia" and RUB2.26 billion in borrowings. This year, the Federal government has allocated RUB150 million for the project.
