Specialists of Orenburenergo PD checked operation of de-icing schemes

Specialists of Orenburgenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies) have in place 449 de-icing procedure specifications (sheets) for melting glaze/ice accretion on wires of the overhead power lines. Ten of them were released in 2015 in Zapadnoye (Western) and Vostochnoye (Eastern) production departments. When preparing for operations during the autumn and winter seasons, business entities of Orenburgenergo carried out 57 trial de-icing operations and conducted audits of the equipment at the substations. To provide training for the staff, 40 training sessions were held, to detect and remove ice accretion on conductors of the overhead transmission lines. The climatic pattern of the Orenburg region is characterized by frequent strong winds and violent temperature fluctuations. Such conditions often result in the formation of ice accretion on the wires of overhead transmission lines. At the moment, melting is the most efficient de-icing technique used to protect overhead power transmission lines. It should be mentioned that for the first time the AC ice-melting procedure was carried out in 1962 at Vostochnye electrical networks, on the 110 kV Orsk– Buruktal line.
