Rostelecom launched UFA-Orenburg fiber-optic line

Rostelecom, Russia’s national long-distance telecommunications operator, launched a new high-speed digital fiber-optic line from Ufa to Orenburg.
The line stretching 824 kilometers from Ufa to Orenburg through the towns Chishmi (Republic of Bashkortostan) and Buguruslan (the Orenburg region) was constructed using SDH (level STM-16) digital equipment. Its throughput capacity amounts to 2.5 Gbps.
Evergrowing demands of all regional market participants as well as the residents of the Orenburg region have resulted in the surge in traffic, so the introduction of a new line will enable Rostelecom to increase the number of channels to this destination, while improving the quality of domestic and international long-distance services along with starting provision of services to companies from all over Russia, which have business interests in the Orenburg region.
Being of great importance for both the region and Rostelecom itself, implementation of this project enabled the Company to create in Orenburg the second digital access to its trunk network – a backup system for enhancing reliability. Rostelecom’s investments in a new line totaled about USD 2,3 million.
The Governor of the Orenburg region, Alexei Chernyshev said: “High technologies contribute to the quality of life. We highly appreciate that launching additional line of high capacity has given renewed impetus to the economic development of the region.”
Dmitry Yerokhin, Rostelecom’s General Director, commented: “Rostelecom has an extensive and sophisticated telecoms infrastructure. Playing a critical role in enabling the provision of telecommunications services in every region of the Russian Federation, as of now, we are focusing on raising quality and reliability levels, which is crucial for the Company’s success. Thanks to increased accessibility of Rostelecom’s lines along with cutting-edge technologies we introduce, the Orenburg region will have more opportunities to implement infocommunication projects of any complexity while all the residents will benefit from expanded range of modern telecom services.”
“Speaking on the project, I would pay special attention to mutually beneficial cooperation between Rostelecom and VolgaTelecom, both incorporated into Svyazinvest holding,” Dmitry Gurevich, Deputy General Director – Project Management Director of Rostelecom, said. “Thanks to our successful cooperation, the project implementation took less time and the resources of the two companies were used in the best way. While constructing a number of the line sections, we used optical fiber of VolgaTelecom’s cable, and a part of our equipment was housed in this operator’s facilities.”
