On the working meeting of Alexey Miller and Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer

The working meeting of Alexey Miller, the Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee, and Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, the OMV AG’s Director-General and the Chairman of the Management Committee (Austria), was held at Gazprom’s headquarters on the 27th of January.

The subject was discussed to facilitate cooperation in the gas sphere. The agreement was reached to start negotiations in the nearest future to prolong the contract for Russian gas supplies to Austria. The parties have confirmed the interest in expanding transit capacity of the WAG (West-Austria-Gasleitung) gas pipeline. The company OMV AG has been ready to render assistance in expanding the capacity of the TAG (Trans-Austria-Gasleitung) gas pipeline to enlarge Russian gas supplies to Italy.

Alexey Miller and Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer considered prospects to broaden cooperation in the field of geological survey and gas production. In particular, the possibility of joint development of Tazov gas condensate field will be studied later on.

The Parties have expressed interest in elaborating prospects to use and expand OMV AG and Gazprom’s existing transit capacities to increase gas deliveries to the countries of Balkan region.

OMV AG is the first western company, which concluded the long term contract for the natural gas purchase from the USSR.

At present the export of the Russian gas to Austria is accomplished in accordance with the four long term contracts. As of January 1, 2005 the total volume of gas supplies from Russia to Austria accounted for more than 138 bcm.

Austria plays an important role in transmission of the Russian natural gas to Italy, France, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. About 31 bcm of Russian gas was transited through the territory of Austria in 2004.
